Tweetbot for Mac: Reviewed

Tweetbot for Mac: Reviewed

Tapbots consistently creates award-winning apps for iOS and Mac. I've been a loyal customer for years now, and I've written reviews of two of their other apps—Tweetbot for iOS and Calcbot. They're a company that I respect, and I'm excited to review their most recent update to Tweetbot app for Mac.

Purpose & Functionality

Tweetbot is a native Twitter client for Mac. It's beautifully designed and remarkably quick. It continues to provide top-notch support for lists, muting, and a wide variety of third-party clients like Instapaper. The most recent release updates the design to perfectly fit within OS X Yosemite.

The alternative Twitter clients for Mac (including the official Twitter app) aren't nearly as well done. Tweetbot for Mac provides the best Twitter experience currently available on the Mac. It's well-worth the price.

Rating: simplicity, usefulness, beauty and necessity

  • Simplicity. (9/10) Tweetbot for Mac works how you think it should. I'm constantly finding new features by just trying what I think should work.

  • Usefulness. (9/10) Drag-and-drop photos to add them to a tweet. Quickly search your timeline or even a list. Easily save a link for later using Instapaper, Reading List, Pocket, Pinboard or Readability. It's extremely powerful without being overwhelming.

  • Beauty. (10/10) I love the look of Tweetbot for Mac. Nothing is out of place. Profiles are beautiful. Typography and spacing are consistent, and animations are clean and unobtrusive.
  • Necessity. (8/10) If you're using Twitter every day on your Mac, I'd suggest Tweetbot. It provides a better experience than Twitter.com, and you'll be supporting some of the best developers and designers in the business.
  • Stickiness. (7/10) I've been happily using Tweetbot for Mac for years now, but with only three employees, Tapbots struggles to release updates as quickly as expected. Twitter has been releasing features much more frequently than in the past, and if Tweetbot is going to keep its place as the best Twitter client on Mac, updates need to be more frequent.
